Finnish map of the defense area, scale 1:20000
The fortified area was constructed in late 1930s. All fortifications of the sector were of new design - flank-firing bunkers with observation cupolas. Red Army assaults in this sector started quite early in December 1939. Probably the most famous event that happened in the sector was a successful Finnish ambush, which killed kombrig Veschev, commaner of 24th "Steel" Rifle Division, which was famous for its successes during Russian Civil War. During January the sector was relatively quiet, but with beginning of new Red Army offensive in early February 1940, fighting in the sector became more intensive. Surroundings of Sn1 bunker bear marks of a ferocious battle - numerous shell craters, remains of a Red Army T26 tank and small foxholes dug in dragonteeth line.
